WTO Negotiations, Next Farm Bill Headline 2006 North American Grain Congress

The National Sorghum Producers (NSP) and the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) invite you to "Remember the Alamo!" February 4-8 at the 2006 North American Grain Congress in San Antonio, Texas.

The joint conference will focus on domestic farm policy and trade. Invited speakers to the general session include Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns; Saxby Chambliss, Chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee; and U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman. Jim Wiesemeyer, vice president of policy and trade issues for Informa Economics, will give insights on the 2007 farm bill process and global trade.

The Grain Congress will also give attendees the opportunity to learn about new products, technology and production practices through tabletop displays, educational hearings and a research session.

NAWG President Sherman Reese, a wheat producer from Echo, Ore., said that U.S. agriculture is at a turning point. "The 2007 farm bill, world trade talks and the federal budget are on producers minds. The Grain Congress will give us a venue for sharing ideas and finding solutions."

James Vorderstrasse, NSP President and a sorghum producer from Hebron, Neb., said that the 2006 Grain Congress will be also be a landmark occasion for the sorghum industry. "Our board of directors voted decisively to move forward with a new structure to take effect at the Grain Congress. A delegate body, bringing together producers and industry leaders, will meet for the first time to elect a board of directors. We will be a stronger, more united voice for the sorghum industry."
