About Sorghum Check-Offs
Six of the major sorghum-growing states have established check-off programs for grain sorghum. Producers in these states pay a small assessment on their grain sorghum.
Check-off funds are used for research, education, promotion, market development and other projects designed to increase the profitability of sorghum production. In most cases, checkoff dollars may not be used for legislative representation or for work in policy areas such as environmental regulations or disaster assistance. Instead, these types of efforts are funded by sorghum growers and industry who choose to be a part of a unified voice through association dues-paying membership.
